With the Cabinet Decree No. 2009/15546 published in the Official Gazette No. 27405 dated November 13, 2009 and the Council of Ministers No. 2009/15612 (annex) published in the Official Gazette No. 27416 dated November 24, 2009, 18 Technology Faculties were established, and this number is It has reached 21. In this context, students have been accepted to these faculties since the academic year 2010-2011.
Marmara University Faculty of Technology provides engineering education, the language of instruction is Turkish. Graduates take the title of engineer and have the same rights with the students who graduate from other engineering faculties in terms of signature authority and other authorities. They can register in chambers related to engineering fields. The Faculty of Engineering within Marmara University provides education in English.
The most fundamental feature that distinguishes Technology Faculties from other engineering faculties is that it provides application-oriented education. In addition to the theoretical courses, almost every course has an application-laboratory part. In this sense; It is a faculty that can be preferred by prospective students who have high manual skills or who want to improve their hand skills and application skills, are prone to applied studies and who like project-oriented studies. One of the most important features that distinguish our faculty from other engineering faculties is; In addition to the 36x2 = 72-day short-term internships, which are also called "Summer Internship", which the last year students do in their second and third years, they complete the 7th term of their education (about 3.5 months), which lasts 14 weeks, "Workplace Training" or " They spend in industrial institutions and enterprises under the name of “Long Term Internship”. During the internship period of the students, our faculty pays 1/3 of the minimum wage within the framework of SGK transactions and payments and legislation. In this sense, workplaces are not burdened with any financial burden.
Undoubtedly, thanks to the Long Term Internship application, there are positive gains for both our students and workplaces. In this way, our students experience many problems such as finding a job after graduation, getting to know the workplace and adapting to the lowest level. Workplaces also get to know our students better during the 14-week long-term internship and the recruitment phase of our graduates who meet their criteria takes less time.
Workplace Training and internship practices are carried out within the scope of the mutually signed protocol and related directives. Workplace Training starts on the starting date of the classes and ends on the end of the classes specified in the academic calendar. Students are considered on leave during the midterm exam period. After the Workplace Training is over, some workplaces may require the student to continue to work for 1 or 2 days a week until they graduate, in this case, the SSI procedures are carried out by our faculty and the student is also provided with the opportunity of "Optional Internship".
The student resource of the Technology Faculties is the high schools named as General High School, Flat High School or Anatolian High School and Vocational and Technical Anatolian High Schools, which are Vocational Technical Secondary Education Institutions. As it is known, until 2010, when the Faculties of Technology were opened, it was not possible for MTOK students to choose engineering faculties due to the field coefficient applications and there were great grievances in this regard. For example, a student who graduated from the Electrical Department of a technical high school or vocational high school could not choose Electrical Engineering. This situation was the same for all other professions. With the opening of Technology Faculties, some solution has been found to this problem. In short, a quota of 20% of the total quota is reserved for students coming from these institutions, which are called MTOK.
